Paragraph 1 Issues:
Thesis Statement
The world today is riddled with environmental problems, and many argue that
technology
is the solution to addressing them, However, some contend that
technology
is not enough and can even become a crutch for those who abuse its benefits. To thoroughly understand this subject, it is important to understand
technology
as a tool and as a potentially harmful instrument to the environment and to society.
Technology
has brought about the commoditization of social media which is instrumental in spreading awareness of important issues such as environmental degradation. Alongside this revolutionary development came the rise of electronic commerce, a game-changer for many entrepreneurs all over the world. This has lessened the need for aggressive construction of large
infrastructures
which in turn, aids the preservation of natural resources. As a result, pollution is mitigated and carbon emissions are reduced.
However, these technological advancements come at a significant cost for society if not handled with care. Research shows that in the
last
five years, individuals have spent more than four days in a week without human interaction and consider themselves lonely. This is mainly due to the convenience
technology
provides making more people feel less inclined to leave their homes thus, resulting in reduced social interaction. A byproduct of this is having less opportunity to have meaningful conversations with others, which studies have shown
lead
to stifled creativity and innovation.
With these things considered, it is important to distinguish the positive and negative effects
technology
has on individuals and society as a whole. As the popular saying goes, "Too much of a good thing is not good
anymore
", a principle that continues to apply to the responsible use of
technology
.
