The effects of
online
education
on the
students
are one of the hottest topics that people keep debating about after the COVID-19
pendemic
. I believe the shift to
online
education
exerted some negative effects on both academic performance and
social
skills
of the
students
.
Obviously, the trends of substituting traditional learning environment to
online
courses are showing bad result compared to the previous face-to-face
education
. First, in most cases,
online
circumstance result in the lack of the
interaction
between teacher and
students
. In particular, teachers are facing hindrances while monitoring the individual
students
with the tiny monitor. Less
interaction
would do harm
on
students
' concentration, and it would surely result in bad performance of academic knowledge. Also, teaching online has a remarkable shortcoming; limited means of evaluation. Different from the traditional evaluating methods, such as interview, teachers would have a single option, remote quiz. Lastly,
online
courses cannot
fulfill
the needs of some of the subjects, for example, physical
education
and music.
Students
are likely to remain
uneducated
especially on these subjects, which requires much more
interaction
.
When it comes to impact on
students
'
social
skills
, there are also several major problems. Especially for
students
in younger ages, lack of
interaction
in
online
environment makes dreadful impacts. Schools are functioning not only as
a
academic sites, but also as
a sites
where
students
are allowed to make a huge amount of conversation and broaden their insights of solving the
social
conflicts. Substituting this to virtual environment would result in severe deterioration of
students
'
social
skills
. For example,
I've
seen the research comparing
students
after the COVID-19
pendemic
and before the
pendemic
. The result was the increased portion of
students
who find it
hard
to make a basic
conversation
both with seniors and friends. Namely, this research indicates how
online
education
is ruining young
students
'
soical
skills
.
In a nutshell,
online
education
leaves
students
experience less opportunity of getting better educational achievement and nicer
skills
of coping
social
problems, and both of those limitations were originated from the nature of the
online
education
—lack of the cordial, genuine
interaction
.
