Nowadays, many
people
believe that one must
learn
a
country
's native
langauage
to fully
understand
its
culture
. Although this may seem correct, I
completely
disagree with this viewpoint. In our modern society,
people
are
accomodating
and help individuals from
different
backgrounds, and
various
resources are available that makes it
easier
to
understand
diverse norms.
To begin with, in the contemporary
world
,
various
resources such as translation application and the internet are available that can help
understand
unfamiliar traditions. Nowadays, a person can use their mobile phones to translate any text written in a foreign
language
, thus making it comparatively
easier
than
learning
a foreign
language
. Moreover, these modern technologies are helpful for
travelers
who visit numerous
countries
, as it is difficult for them to
understand
every dialect they
encountered
in
different
nations. In addition to this, there are numerous documentaries about
various
nations and
cultures
that are dubbed in commonly spoken
languages
like English, French, and Spanish. Hence, it becomes
easier
for viewers to comprehend lesser-known heritages from distinct part of the
world
. For instance, there is a series on
netflix
where audiences can easily
learn
about the cultural practices of
people
residing in Indonesia, Sri Lanka, and Mongolia.
Furthermore, the
world
has globalized, and individuals from
different
backgrounds live together, creating a multicultural society. Due to this development,
people
can now experience
different
traditions without needing to fully
understand
the unfamiliar
language
. For example, Canada is a multicultural
country
where schools and universities celebrate festivals and holidays from
various
cultures
around the
world
. Even though some individuals may not comprehend the
languages
spoken in these events, they can still experience and
learn
about the values and ways of
lives
. Therefore, it is not essential for a person to
learn
a native
language
to fully engage with a separate
culture
.
To conclude, while some members of society may believe that it is necessary to
learn
a foreign
language
to
understand
a
country
's traditions, I think that globalization and the presence of numerous resources have made it
easier
to appreciate and
learn
about unfamiliar
cultures
