Thesis Statement
In recent times, many people are opting for
electric
vehicles
due to their advantages over traditional gasoline-powered
cars
such as
zero tailpipe emissions and elimination of fossil fuel consumption. However, like every technology, EVs also have disadvantages that impact the environment. This essay will further elaborate on
merits
and
disadvanatages
of
battery
-
operated
cars
.
To begin with, zero carbon emissions, which
contributes
to a better
environment
are the primary advantage that
electric
motorvehicles
hold over gas-
operated
automobiles. EVs
operate
on electricity instead of petrol or diesel, so no harmful
byproducts
such as
carbon dioxide and carbon monoxide are produced. As a result, the environment improves, as
reduction
in air pollution leads to cleaner and better air quality. This betterment can have help in combating greenhouse effects and global warming, thus providing an improved and sustainable
atomsphere
for
human
and wildlife. Furthermore,
battery
-
operated
vehicles
reduces are dependences on fossil fuels, thereby decreasing the environmental damage caused by oil extraction. The reduced dependency on gas-
operated
cars
and a shift towards the
electric
vehicles
help in restoring the ecological balance.
However, the
batteries
used in greener automobiles
requires
excessive mining in sensitive areas of the world, thus contributing
in
the destruction of habitat for wildlife. The production of the
batteries
require
raw materials
such as
lithium and cobalt, which are often sourced through highly sensitive zones where endangered species
resides
. Therefore, the extraction and transportation operations causes deforestation, which contributes to global warming and loss of habitat for wild animals. Moreover, mining also results in the loss of other important elements from soil that are essential nourishing plants and animals present in the area. As a result, the production of power core for green
cars
can lead to serious environmental issues and concerns, which may overshadow their merits.
To conclude,
electric
vehicles
are the future of transportation, as it provides a cleaner mode of transportation that helps in reducing air pollution and restoring the ecosystem. But, the manufacturing process that
requires
intensive mining operation resulting in the loss of habitat for wildlife, is the major disadvantage of this technology that
requires
improvement.
