Thesis Statement
Cycling
and public
transports
are two different ball games. Where
cycling
promotes physical activity and better health and physique, public transport is useful for areas facing
lack
of well established infrastructure.
Cycling
and walking
has
adequate benefits
on
human health and the general environment. It is vital to realise the importance of physical activity in today's
world
where diets are of low-quality and the environment is disrupted
due to
the depletion of the ozone layer.
When
cycling
will be
promoted, it would encourage the society as a whole to spend a portion of their day in
actvities
that apparently
make
their bodies move and
help
burn calories, and when
people
will cycle together, it will create a sense of livelihood in the society.
Also, cycling or avoiding the use of public/private
transports
will help reduce the uses of beneficial resources like petroleum or
gasoline
.
Adding to that, with lesser cars/bikes, lesser space will be required for parking your vehicles around the street and will reduce the need to build skyscrapers as parking lots, thus ensuring lesser illegal buildings in the city and more space for adding greenery in the surroundings.
On the flip side,
cycling
does have certain disadvantages. For example, the lack of economy
due to
which infrastructure suitable for
cycling
/walking
can't
be developed.
For
cycling
/walking to continually take place, proper
cycling
tracks/zebra crossing and traffic management is required so that cyclists can enjoy their ride and not feel like a burden
due to
the low speed of cycles
infront
of cars or trains/buses.
Also, in today's world where
people
value their
time
over money, and hardly find
time
for themselves,
its
hard for them to put
time
into
cycling
. Henceforth,
very few
people
would be able to invest
time
in it and would have to suffer with means of safety and
time
conservation.
Cycling
has its fair share of benefits and drawbacks, depending on the person's perspective and how they value their health. However,
people
cant
totally be blamed for their choices since
government
and the economy also
plays
its role and has to be held equally accountable.
