This bar chart illustrates the number of online retail transactions in four
citiesーNew
York, London, Tokyo, and Beijing over a six-year period from 2015 to 2020. Looking at the graph from an overall perspective, it is clear that the number of transactions increased in all four cities over time. However, the rate of growth and the relative volumes varied across the cities.
New York consistently recorded the highest number of transactions throughout the period. In 2015, it began at 50 million and rose steadily each year to reach 90 million by 2020. London followed a similar pattern, increasing from 40 million in 2015 to 85 million in 2020. Tokyo, on the other hand, started at a lower level, at around 30 million, and reached 65 million by the end of the period.
However, the most notable change occurred in Beijing. In 2015, it had the lowest number of transactions, at only 20 million. But over the six years, the number in Beijing grew quickly, reaching 70 million in 2020. This growth allowed Beijing to surpass Tokyo and come close to London in the final year.
Overall, New York stayed the top city for online shopping, but Beijing had the biggest growth, showing a big change in how people shop in that area.
