The following bar chart represents the deforestation rates (in
thousand
hectares) in the four continents of South America, Africa, Asia, and North America throughout the years of 1990 to 2015. Within the bar chart it can be
seen
that the deforestation rates of South America has
seen
a significant yet stable decline over the years from 4.500.000 hectares in 1990 to only 3.500.000 hectares in 2015. In contrast, the continent of Africa has
seen
a slow
increase of
deforestation rates throughout the 25 years, from 3.000.000 hectares in 1990 to 3.100.000 hectares in 2015. The highest rate of deforestation in Africa was recorded in 2010, where it reached 3.300.000 hectares.
Compared to the two mentioned continents, Asia has lower rates of deforestation with a slower decline when compared to South America. From the bar
chart
it can be
seen
that Asia's rate of deforestation has decreased from 2.000.000 hectares in 1990 to 1.700.000 hectares in 2015. Lastly, North America is the continent with the least amount of deforestation with similar patterns of recession to Asia. In 1990, North America had 1.500.000 hectares worth of deforestation and in 2015, this number decreased to 1.200.000 hectares.
In conclusion, the continent with the highest rates of deforestation throughout 1990 to 2015 was South
America
whilst the continent with the lowest deforestation rates was North America. Despite this, South America had the most
signifant
decline
of
deforestation rates when compared to
other
four continents. On the other hand, Africa had an increasing trend of deforestation rate from 1990 to 2010 with a mild decrease in 2015.
