The data compares the frequency of crimes across five American states between 2015 and 2020.
Overall, crime rates in Houston steadily rose each year, and consistently held its position as the number one city with the highest rates. In contrast, San Fransisco witnessed the least crimes despite slightly peaking throughout the
five year
period.Generally, Chicago and Houston had the highest amount of crimes committed at 7.2 and 8 in 2015, respectively. While Houston saw a slight rise to 8.5 by 2020, the rates in Chicago steadily dropped each year, reaching 6.7 in 2020. Similarly, the rates in LA fell yearly, from 6 in 2015 to 5.4 by 2020.
San Fransisco and New York comprised much lower rates, starting at 3.5 and 5.3 in 2015, respectively.
With the exception of
a 0.1 drop, San Fransisco saw a slight increase throughout the years. On the other hand, New York experienced fluctuations, from a sudden decline in 2017 to 4.8 before rising again to 5 in 2019 and 5.2 in 2020
